Yesterday Microsoft announced that it would be extending the warranty on its Xbox 360's to 3 years in response to what Microsoft calls "unacceptable" numbers of 360's that needed repair. Those familiar with the Blue Screen of Death on PC's, a similar problem has cropped up since the 360 was introduced. The hardware issue with the Xbox 360 can be seen when the system ceases normal functioning and instead of a pretty green Ring Of Light, a very red Ring Of Light comes on and you no longer are able to do anything but stare at the new shard of red surrounding the power button. The good news for 360 owners doesn't end there as Microsoft is also going to reimburse owners who already had their systems repaired after receiving the Red Ring Of Death.
