Addicted to Video Games?

According to Dr. Mohamed K. Khan, MD, PhD and chair of the AMA's Council on Science and Public Health, playing video games for more than 2 hours a day on a daily basis can be filed under disorder. Dr. Kahn cites research that claims an over abudance of gaming (2+ hrs a day) has unsociable effects, especially on children 10 and under. Later on in Dr. Kahn's report he goes on to list multiple symptoms of addictive behavior that can be observed in the activity of playing games. The most commonly associated disorder that gaming addiction shares is with pathological gambling. According to statistics within the report 12% of UK gamers and 10-15% of US Gamers could be filed as game addicts if Dr. Kahn has his way. Not only does he propose adding gaming addiction to the list of AMA disorders but he also writes that the current ESRB system for regulating the sale of mature video games to younger children should also be revised. I think what needs to be revised is that only 10 to 15% of US gamers can be considered addicts. Seems like an awfully small number doesn't it?
